Vineyards in Vallée du Rhône

The vineyards of the Rhône Valley are some of the oldest in France: the Romans used this region to produce their wine more than 2,000 years ago.  “Modern” wine as we know it today came about in the 18th century with the invention of the cork, but the Rhône area can claim to be one of the oldest production areas of France.  The wines of the Côte du Rhône were among the earliest to be labelled with their appellations (AOC) and being so warm there, there is a prevalence of organic farming in the region. There is a wide variety of different styles in the Rhône Valley. The region produces predominantly red wine and it provides a safe bet for lovers of good quality wines that tend to be richer and more flavoursome in style.  The whites are well worth discovering too and they can offer excellent value.
